Cadets and staff were out on the streets of Bournemouth on Saturday 6th November
to show
their support for this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The Poppy Appeal is one of the best-known and supported campaigns in the calendar and each
year the nation shows its support for The Royal British Legion's work by giving generously to the Poppy Appeal.

Plane Pull

130 Pull First

Congratulations to all the Cadets who took part in the 2nd Annual Plane Pull at Bournemouth Helicopters on Sunday 8th August.

In aid of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) and Motor Neurone Disease, Cadets and Staff from 130 (Bournemouth) Squadron ATC once again pulled a 30,000kg Boeing 737-300 over the required 50 metres. In 2009 the event raised over £7,000 and this year it is hoped to exceed that total.

The first of the 15 teams scheduled to pull, in addition to pulls by sets of individual entrants, the Cadets gave their all in their initial “pull” without moving the aircraft at all; the brakes were still on!

After ground crew rectified this oversight, the Cadets went on to beat their time from last year, but it was not good enough to wrest the title from the eventual winners, Castle Cover, who managed to retain the title they gained last year.

The Squadron has good reason to support the JTYAF having benefited this year from a very generous donation to the Squadron in May of over £1600 towards the purchase and refurbishment of band equipment for the Corps of Drums.
